Perhaps you would like to look for some tools that work with netCDF
files?

There's an extensive list here:

http://www.unidata.ucar.edu/software/netcdf/software.html

I always recommend the NCO tools, which work well and can do a lot from
the command line. If you want to plot or graph data, try NCL or grads.
