I was able to successfully build and install the netCDF package on your
MacOS X system.  Here's a summary of my effort:

    $ ssh address@hidden
    ...

    ~/netcdf-3.5.1-beta13/src/fortran: patch -c cfortran.h absoft90-macosx.patch
    patching file cfortran.h

I got the patch-file "absoft90-macosx.patch" from

    http://www.unidata.ucar.edu/packages/netcdf/absoft90-macosx.patch
