OK, sorry, I didn't read your original submission carefully enough.

I've revised the entry at

to credit Eric Salath and to provide the context of your update.  I may still
have
not captured exactly what you want, so feel free to correct what I've written
or to
just take your submission as advice for changes to our build system rather than
for
sharing with other potential users.

Also, I'm not sure whether we can handle the Mac case insensitivity properly in
our
Makefiles with the suggested change to rules.make, but I'll pass on your
suggestion.
