the only program I know that can do this is the VisAD Spreadsheet:

  http://www.ssec.wisc.edu/~curtis/ss.html

which can import a Vis5D data file, and export it as a netCDF file.
However, any projection information that was included in the Vis5D
data is not written out in the netCDF file, so you would lose this
information.
