Get the netCDF 3.5.0 source release from:

  ftp://ftp.unidata.ucar.edu/pub/netcdf/netcdf.tar.Z

or the equivalent ZIP file from

  ftp://ftp.unidata.ucar.edu/pub/netcdf/netcdf.ZIP

and expand it.  Then just follow the installation instructions in

  http://www.unidata.ucar.edu/packages/netcdf/INSTALL.html

using CC=gcc and FC=g77 (if you need the Fortran interface for
opendx).

You may have a problem when you get to the "make install" step, since
the executables are created as "ncdump.exe" and "ncgen.exe" instead of
just "ncdump" and "ncgen", so you will have to copy these by hand to
wherever you want to install them.  They may not be needed by
opendx; I think it only needs to link against the netcdf library.

We don't have a CYGWIN system here, so if you have problems with the
installation, please send complete details, as outlined at the end of
the INSTALL document.
