John,
 Just wanted to let you know that the fortran code
I am currently compiling under the Compaq Visual Fortran 6.5A
was previously compiled under Digital Fortran
and WORKED! I used the same netcdf library (3.4) and
when I upgraded to 3.5, this didn't make a difference.
