My hardware's different, but the OS is V4.0b also. So our systems are
comparable.

The difference between my gcc v2.7.2 and your gcc v2.7.2.1 is
insignificant.
The difference might be in the way the netCDF library was built. Can
you send me the following:
1. The standard and error output from executing the netCDF
"configure" script.
2. The standard and error output from executing the "make" command
to build the netCDF package.
3. The standard and error output from executing the "make test"
command to test the netCDF package.
