960117: NETCDF fortran errors with linux

Darin,

Try the following:

    1.  Go to the fortran/ subdirectory.

    2.  Edit the file `linux.m4': replace the `logical*1' specification
        with `byte'.

    3.  Remove the files `ftest.f', `ftest.o', and `ftest'.

    4.  Execute the command `make test' -- see what happens.
