I'm afraid that the above error messages aren't very useful because they
don't tell me what the problems are -- only where they occur.

Would you please send me the file "make.log", which is mentioned in the
INSTALL file.  Don't forget that it MUST INCLUDE BOTH standard output
and standard error.
