Hi Barry,

Yes, and it has now become one of our Frequently Asked Questions about
netCDF, for which answers are also available in an FAQ file we make
available in two forms: ASCII text and a WWW document for Web browsers such
as Mosaic, Netscape, or Lynx. The ASCII version is at

    ftp://ftp.unidata.ucar.edu/pub/netcdf/faq.txt

and the WWW version is at

    http://www.unidata.ucar.edu/packages/netcdf/faq.html

Here's what's currently there regarding OpenVMS:

    15. Has anyone ported netCDF to DEC's Alpha OpenVMS platform?

Valerio Luccio (address@hidden) has ported netCDF to Alpha/VMS
but notes the following problems and workarounds:

It seems that the C run-time library on Alpha VMS 6.1 has some
problems with buffering. I have discovered two different instances,
one of which concerns NetCDF. I am talking to DEC to come up with a
proper and permanent solution. In the mean time, I have come up with
a patchy solution, so, if you are experiencing difficulties in this
area, contact me and I can help you. As soon as DEC comes up with a
more permanent solution, I will post it ...

Nope, sorry, the machine laurel.ucar.edu has been unplugged for a couple of
years. The current distribution is available from

    ftp://ftp.unidata.ucar.edu/pub/netcdf/netcdf.tar.Z

We no longer make VMS backup files available, but the Unix compressed
tar-format source is the version that should be used for VMS systems. We
tested it on a VMS system before releasing it.
