I'm afraid that the development environment (i.e. compilers & linkers)
on Cumulus is still not usable.  On a Solaris system, the C compiler
should be locatable under /opt/SUNWspro/bin.  The stuff in /newsoftware
appears to be a simple unpacking of a tar-file rather than an
installation of a development environment.

Here's some advice from our head System Administrator:

    You need a Forte Developer CD, version 7 is the most recent, but
    version 6 (any update) is probably good enough.  On that CD, you
    will need to run the "installer" script which will present a GUI
    that will allow the user to choose which software to install.

    Once the installation is complete, then software licensing issues
    need to be resolved to use the software. If necessary, Sun grants 30
    day demo use licenses by calling 1-800-USA-4SUN.
