19990104: conduit questions



Joan,

I can set up one of our servers here to feed the data to you 
so that you can test things out and see if the data is of
interest to your group.

Generally I would expect top level sites to be able to relay the
complete data set to about 4 other sites. Since we are just starting 
out, we don't have that many sites in place yet. 

The data travels from NCEP to Goddard via T-1, which appears to be the
limiting factor thus far as far as network bandwidth. The sites
downstream of GSFC thus far are vBNS sites, which appear to have
sufficient capacity to fan the data out. The T-1 link is roughly
limited to about 500 MB an hour, which is pushed to the limit with 
the AVN data set.
