Hi,

Let's keep some perspective here, and not let the "perfect" solution
be the enemy of a good solution. Making time a double will give adequate
time resolution for many, if not most, applications, and it is a simple
enough solution that it fits into netcdf and the netcdf filters in a natural
way. Let the time origin be specified somehow in the history or attributes
section, and let those applications that need time to very high precision
work in an ad hoc fashion until some standard way of doing things appears
on the horizon. But please, lets not burden the proposed netcdf filters
with anything very complicated here.
