good news for Java

Sun's Java web page at http://java.sun.com is chock
full of good and interesting news.

HP is licensing the JDK 1.2 HotSpot compiler for HP-UX. This
is good news for the NWS and other HP users inside and outside
the weather community.

IBM is continuing their committment to Java by collaborating
with Sun on Java Media.

Java3D 1.1 beta 2 is now available (Curtis will test it for
VisAD and let us know when it works).

And finally there is an interesting story about Bill Joy
and John Gage describing Jini. Jini and VisAD both use
Java RMI for distributed objects.

Cheers,
Bill
