Subject: Soliciting Comments on the Experimental National
Marine Weather Web Portal through July 31, 2014
Effective immediately, and continuing through July 31, 2014, NWS
is seeking user feedback on the Experimental National Marine
Weather Web Portal:

  http://preview.weather.gov/mwp

This new portal displays hazards, forecasts, observations and
many other data layers useful for briefing mariners, coastal
managers, emergency managers and first responders on current and
future marine weather.

This web page can be configured by users to display marine
weather information pertinent to their local geographic area,
thus providing critical decision support services. Observations
are included across both land and sea, and include both fixed
observation points and moving ship observations. Overlays such
as satellite and radar data are also available.

Tropical systems and their forecasted tracks will also be
available on the portal, as well as information from the National
Digital Forecast Database. Other vital datasets available include
tides, sea surface temperatures and analysis and forecasts of key
marine variables such as wind, wind gusts, significant wave
height and surface water currents.

An extensive help menu, including video demonstrations on how to
interact with the portal, is available on the page.

The web portal can be found under "Items of Interest to Mariners"
via the marine home page:

weather.gov/marine

The portal may also be listed on local NWS Weather Forecast
Office websites under the "marine" link.
Please provide feedback on this experimental web page by using
the brief survey form available at the below link and also
available via the feedback link on the portal itself:
http://www.nws.noaa.gov/survey/web-survey.php?code=ENMWP

Pending analysis of comments, the NWS will decide whether or not
to make the Marine Weather Web Portal operational.
