On Tuesday, 16 July 2013, the National Centers for Environmental Prediction (NCEP) is scheduled to transition operations from the current generation of supercomputers in Gaithersburg and Fairmont (Central Computing System (CCS)) to the new generation of supercomputers in Reston and Orlando (Weather and Climate Operational Supercomputing System (WCOSS)), pending successful completion of the final code transition and evaluation that is currently underway. As of that date, all operational model guidance will be generated from one of those two supercomputers.

In preparation for the WCOSS transition, NCO will be conducting two live tests on WCOSS during which we will disseminate the products from WCOSS as the official operational products. That is, we will shut off dissemination from the CCS, and send products out from WCOSS only. The tests are scheduled to occur on Tuesday June 25th and Tuesday July 2nd. The tests will begin with the 06Z GDAS run and go through the 15Z SREF. Known differences between the model suite on the CCS and on WCOSS are outlined at the following webpage: http://www.nco.ncep.noaa.gov/pmb/changes/docs/wcosseval.shtml which is being updated frequently. We encourage users to prepare for these live tests.

*Please note:* If Critical Weather Day (CWD) is declared or in effect for either scheduled test day, the live test will be postponed.
