and Davenport, IA, Effective March 15, 2012

Effective Thursday, March 15, 2012, at 0001 Coordinated Universal Time (UTC), the NWS Weather Forecast Offices (WFO) in Des Moines (DMX), IA and Davenport (DVN), IA, will change their issuing suite of fire weather forecast products for their respective county warning areas of responsibility. DMX and DVN currently issue Site-Specific (Spot) Forecasts (FWSDMX and FWSDVN).These forecasts will continue as part of WFO DMX’s and DVN’s fire weather forecast product suite; however, both DMX and DVN will discontinue their Grassland Fire Danger Product (RFDDMX and RFDDVN) on March 15, 2012.Information regarding grassland fire danger will be included in the new Fire Weather Planning Forecasts (FWFDMX and FWFDVN). The fire weather planning forecasts will provide each county in WFO DMX and WFO DVN areas of responsibility with a fire weather forecast. A list of the counties involved and the zone number of each county is online from the NWS Management Information Retrieval System at:

http://www.nws.noaa.gov/mirs/

Because no changes to fire weather forecast zones are being made, current and future fire weather zone shapefiles will have the correct zones for WFO DMX and DVN.Fire weather forecast zone shapefiles are available online at:

www.nws.noaa.gov/geodata/catalog/wsom/html/firezone.htm <http://www.nws.noaa.gov/geodata/catalog/wsom/html/firezone.htm>

Partners and users of these products will need to add the above product headers/identifiers to their communications systems to receive these NWS products:
