Topic: GOES-10 Imager and Sounder Patch Temperature Change
Message Issued: March 19, 2007, 1845 UTC
Satellites Impacted: GOES-10
Products Impacted: GOES-10 Imager and Sounder
Date/Time of Initial Impact: March 22, 2007 0240 and 0225 UTC

-----------------------------------------
Details:

For users of the GOES-10 Imager and Sounder:

On March 22, 2007, SOCC Engineers will change the GOES-10 Imager and
Sounder patch temperatures from their MID set points (101K and 100K
respectively) to their LOW set-points (94K and 92.5K) at approximately
02:40 UTC and 02:25 UTC (21:40 and 21:25 ET on March 21, 2007).

The change will be done during keep out zone time and prior to eclipse
to minimize the impact on users. The temperature transition will take
approximately 4 hours. The users may see slight data degradation
(venetian blinding) in the first few frames after the eclipse (05:15 UTC
for the Imager and 05:31 UTC for the Sounder) until the patch
temperatures stabilize at their new lower set-points.

The signal to noise ratio will improve as a result of operation at a
lower patch (detector) temperature. The patch will be controlled at this
temperature (94/92.5 K) until October 2006 when it will be switched back
to MID setting during the autumn eclipse/KOZ season.

MBCC will also be turned off at the time of the patch temp change and
will be turned back on approximately two days later.
