Subject:                Changes to the NWS Production Suite



1.  NCEP Central Operations (NCO) is currently working on a new JIF server to
replace the IBM1 system.  The name of the new system is pmbops.ncep.noaa.gov.  
We
will migrate the JIF data base over to this new server on 14 December 2005.

2.  A new mailing list has been established to aid in soliciting feedback on
proposed changes to the NCEP Production Suite.  At the point in the evaluation
process when test data is available, an announcement will be made via the model
evaluation mailing list.  Comments or concerns from the community about the 
proposed
changes can be submitted using the same mailing list. Subscriptions to the model
evaluation mailing list can be managed at:

3.  The NWS Telecommunications Operations Center (TOC) is currently under a
moratorium on changes to operational data flow, while they replace their legacy
mainframe system and the Andrews File System (AFS).  During the moratorium no 
new
NCEP model data will be added to TOC FTP server (tgftp.nws.noaa.gov), AWIPS, or
NOAAPORT.  Limited resources on the NCEP FTP server (ftpprd.ncep.noaa.gov) will 
not
permit it to be utilized as an interim source of new data during the 
moratorium. 
The moratorium is expected to last through March 2006.

4.  There will be no JIF memo the week of 21 November.  All changes for the 
week of
28 November are being advertised in this week?s memo.

5.  The annual holiday moratorium on changes to the NCEP Production Suite will 
begin
on Wednesday, 14 December 2005 and end on Monday, 9 January 2006.  Any requests 
for
changes for implementation prior to the moratorium should be submitted as soon 
as
possible.  As always, changes required to correct operational problems will be
implemented throughout the holiday period.

6.  Maintenance of subscriptions to the JIF memo mailing list can be performed
