NWSTG Power Upgrade

Reminder:
On Wednesday April 6, 2005 at 6:15am EDT (10:15 UTC), the power capability will be upgraded at the NWS Telecommunications Gateway (NWSTG Washington, DC).
The maintenance period is scheduled from 6:15-7:45am EDT(10:15-11:45UTC). During this time intermittent outages are expected. 


Affected Traffic:
As different parts of the power structure are upgraded, outages may occur on remote connections and internal links. These outages are expected to affect the flow of data.
The Nwsnet firewall and switches will be powered down before the start of the power upgrade. Although the PIP router will remain up the firewall interface will go down. As a result, there will be no communication between the regions and HQ during this time. 

Power will be lost to most non-NWSTG communications hardware which includes:
1.    DATMS-U equipment
2. Routers installed at NWSTG which are connected to serial lines (e.g., T1 lines) 
3.    CSU/DSU equipment

Critical Weather:

If the scheduled date is designated a Critical Weather Day, the outage
may be postponed.


We apologize for any inconvenience that this outage may cause.  Please
contact me if the timing of this outage presents a critical problem for
your operations.

Please forward this message to anyone who will be affected by this
action but was left off the mailing list.  I would appreciate if you
would send me the email address of anyone that should be informed of
scheduled downtime in the future, but was not included in the current
