PLEASE PASS TO THE MIC/HIC, SOO, ESA, ITO AND AWIPS FOCAL POINT:
.
THERE WILL BE AN OPERATIONAL TEST OF THE AWIPS NETWORK CONTROL
FACILITY (NCF) BACKUP CAPABILITY.  OPERATIONS WILL BE SWITCHED
FROM THE PRIMARY AWIPS NCF (ANCF) AT SILVER SPRING, MD TO THE
BACKUP NCF (BNCF) AT FAIRMONT, WV.  THE TEST IS SCHEDULED FOR
TUESDAY, 15 JULY 2215 UTC TO WEDNESDAY, 16 JULY 0615 UTC.  IF NEEDED,
AN ALTERNATIVE TEST DAY HAS BE SCHEDULED FOR WEDNESDAY, 16 JULY
DURING THE SAME TIME PERIOD.  THE TEST WILL NOT BE DONE ON CRITICAL
WEATHER DAYS, OR IF THERE ARE OTHER SIGNIFICANT OPERATIONAL
ISSUES WARRANTING POSTPONEMENT.

ALL ANCF MESSAGE DISTRIBUTION WILL BE REPOINTED TO THE BNCF.
THE SWITCH TO THE BNCF WILL BEGIN AT 2215 UTC AND WILL TAKE
ABOUT 20 MINUTES.  DATA WILL QUEUE WHILE THE SWITCH IS IN
PROGRESS AND WILL BE SENT ONCE THE SWITCH IS COMPLETE.  THIS
WILL AFFECT DATA ORIGINATING AT NWS FIELD OFFICES AND NATIONAL
CENTERS ON THE AWIPS NETWORK INCLUDING RADAR DATA.

ONCE ACTIVATED, THE BNCF WILL HANDLE ALL OPERATIONAL FUNCTIONS
OF THE AWIPS NETWORK CONTROL FACILITY UNTIL OPERATIONS ARE
SWITCHED BACK TO THE ANCF AT 0615 UTC.  PHONE CALLS TO THE NCF
(301-713-9344) WILL BE AUTOMATICALLY FORWARDED TO THE BNCF.

DUE TO LIMITED CAPABILITIES OF THE PHONE SWITCH AT THE BNCF,
YOU MAY REACH A VOICE MESSAGE ADVISING YOU TO LEAVE A BRIEF
MESSAGE OR TO CALL AGAIN.  VOICE MESSAGES WILL BE CLOSELY
MONITORED AND IF PROBLEMS DEVELOP, CALLS WILL BE REROUTED
TO THE ANCF.

REPOINTING OF OPERATIONS TO THE ANCF WILL ALSO TAKE ABOUT
20 MINUTES DURING WHICH DATA WILL BE QUEUED.  QUEUED DATA
WILL BE SENT WHEN THE REPOINTING IS COMPLETE.
