Topic: GOES-8 and GOES-10 Single Chord Operations
Message Issued: January 15, 2003, 1530 UTC
Satellites Impacted: GOES-8 and GOES-10
Products Impacted: GOES-8 and GOES-10 Imager and Sounder Data
Date/Time of Initial Impact: January 21, 2003 UTC

-----------------------------------------
Details:

GOES "single chord" operations, made necessary by lunar and solar
intrusions at the edge of the Earth disk, impact navigation and
registration for short periods. Users of GOES GVAR data will see
variable errors during periods of single chord operations as noted
below.

Single Chord Operations for the Bevel effect are listed when applicable.
Bevel effect operation is intended to avoid a seasonal spacecraft
pointing problem with all GOES spacecraft caused by the sun's light
reflecting into the earth sensor.

Following are times of GOES-8 single chord operations for the period
January 15 to January 31, 2003.
