ATTENTION  FAMILY OF SERVICES SUBSCRIBERS/NOAAPORT USERS

SUBJECT RADAR GENERAL STATUS MESSAGE ADDED TO NOAAPORT AND
        RADAR PRODUCT CENTRAL COLLECTION/DISTRIBUTION SERVICE
        /RPCCDS/

COMMENCING IN LATE MAY 2001 THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE
WILL BEGIN ADDING THE GENERAL STATUS MESSAGE /GSM/ FROM
THE DOPPLER WEATHER SURVEILLANCE RADARS /WSR-88D/ TO THE
NOAAPORT SATELLITE BROADCAST AND THE RPCCDS.  THE GSM IS
AN UNSCHEDULED PRODUCT INITIATED BY EACH WSR-88D WHEN
THERE IS A CHANGE IN THE STATE OF THE RADAR... FOR
EXAMPLE... WHEN IT CHANGES VOLUME COVERAGE PATTERN.

THE CAPABILITY TO BEGIN COLLECTION AND DISTRIBUTION OF
THE GSM IS IMPLEMENTED FROM EACH NWS WEATHER FORECAST
OFFICE /WFO/ WHEN IT IMPLEMENTS AWIPS SOFTWARE RELEASE
5.1.1.  THE SOFTWARE WILL BE IMPLEMENTED AT EACH WFO ON
A SCHEDULE THAT COMMENCES IN LATE MAY AND COMPLETES IN
AUGUST 2001.

THE GSM /RPG HEADER 2/GSM/ WILL BE DISTRIBUTED UNDER
THE WMO HEADER OF NXUS6I CCCC... WITH A SECOND HEADER
LINE OF GSMXXX.  CCCC IS THE COLLECTING WFO IDENTIFIER
AND XXX IS THE WSR-88D SITE IDENTIFIER.
