SUBJECT DELAY IN IMPLEMENTATION OF NEW FORMAT OF WINTER STORM
AND NON-PRECIPITATION WEATHER WARNINGS FROM THE NATIONAL WEATHER
SERVICE

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE RELEASED A PUBLIC INFORMATION
STATEMENT ON MARCH 25 1998 INDICATING A NEW FORMAT WOULD BE USED
FOR WINTER STORM AND NON-PRECIPITATION WEATHER HAZARD MESSAGES.
THE CHANGES WERE TO TAKE EFFECT BEGINNING JUNE 2 1998 AT 0800 AM
EDT / 1200 UNIVERSAL TIME COORDINATES /UTC/. THIS IMPLEMENTATION
DATE HAS BEEN DELAYED. WE WILL ATTEMPT TO IMPLEMENT THE NEW
FORMAT IN THE FALL OF 1998. A NEW DATE WILL BE ANNOUNCED ONCE IT
IS DETERMINED. UNTIL THEN...ALL WSW/NPW PRODUCTS WILL CONTINUE TO
BE WRITTEN IN THE CURRENT PARAGRAPH STYLE FORMAT.

THE SEGMENTED STYLE FORMAT THAT WILL BE USED IN THE FUTURE WILL
LOOK MUCH LIKE THE SHORT TERM FORECAST FORMAT WITH EACH
GEOGRAPHIC SEGMENT DEFINED BY UNIVERSAL GENERIC CODE /UGC/
STRINGS.
