NATIONAL TECHNICAL INFORMATION MESSAGE 93-47
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE HEADQUARTERS WASHINGTON DC
200 PM EST WED DEC 14 1993

TO: GOES SATELLITE DATA USERS

FROM: JOHN F. MACHOWSKI
          ACTING CHIEF, SERVICES DEVELOPMENT BRANCH

SUBJECT: NO-GOES TEST STATUS MESSAGE

(THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION WAS PROVIDED BY JAMES HEIL,
OFFICE OF METEOROLOGY, MARINE AND APPLIED SERVICES BRANCH)

Starting at 1200 UTC December 15, 1993, the National Weather
Service (NWS) and the National Environmental Satellite, Data, and
Information Service (NESDIS) will be conducting a No-GOES Test
over the GOES-Tap circuits. This test is scheduled to continue
through 1200 UTC December 16, 1993. This test will replace all
GOES-7 imagery with similar imagery from METEOSAT-3. This test
is unlike previous testS in that all WSFOs and WSOs will be part
of the test and all the GOES-7 dial codes will contain only
METEOSAT-3 imagery.

BE ADVISED, SOME GOES-7 IMAGERY WILL NOT BE AVAILABLE DURING THE
NORMAL 1145 UTC DECEMBER 15, 1993 TIME SLOT. This is so the
tapes can be loaded to have the test start right at 1200 UTC.
Also, there will be no enhancements made to the METEOSAT-3
infrared imagery.

If you have any questions, contact John Paquette, NESDIS
Satellite Services Division, at 301-763-8081 or 763-8051.
