Just a couple of comments...

1 - The HDF5/zlib libraries are not used by release 3.6.3, so you
don't need to worry about that. These libraries are not used until the
4.0 release, and not even used in the 4.0 release unless you used the
--enable-netcdf-4 option to configure.

2 - If you run the command "make check" many fortran programs are
built and run, including some on the examples/F90 directory. Starting
with the building of one of these programs, which are known to work,
can be a good way to figure out what is going wrong.
