20031007:Forwarded post for Matthew Hanna

Hello once again! I just want to thank everyone who responded to my
post earlier. The question concerned Navo's NetCDF convention and how
to store longitude and latitude data for an irregular grid. The
predefined lat and lon variables were coordinate variables and, as such,
1 dimensional. I needed to store 2 dimensional coordinates. For the
moment, we have decided that we will be using the most common suggestion
which was to use coordinate variables, such as x(x) and y(y), as indices
into longitude(x, y) and latitude(x, y) variables. This will suffice
and work quite well for our purposes. That decision may change in the
coming month however since I have learned that there are some predefined
grid variables, grid_lon and grid_lat, that may be of use. These new
variables are not well described and I haven't heard from Navo about
them yet. Once again, thank you to everyone who offered suggestions and
help.
