fortran compiler

Hi,
I am a newcomer to netcdf and I just have a simple question about
the installation of netcdf3.4. I am installing this for my gmt software,
but I would like to install netcdf only for the C compiler since the gmt
software does not require a Fortran compiler. How do I do this during the
installation? Do I have to modify all the makefiles before I start the
installation. If so, how do I modify them. Or is there a clear-cut way
of "turning off" the Fortran compiler?
