It seems that ncvarput1 doesn't work properly for me. I am using the 
version of the library that is available on unidata /pub/netcdf/msdos. It 
is from april 1993 and my documentation is for 2.3. Anybody has a working 
version of the libraries or the changes for Microsoft Vis C++ (1.52 - 16 
bit) or Symantec ?
