GMT on Dec Alpha AXP (fwd)

Others here have had some trouble here using NetCDF on DEC Alpha
workstations running OSF.  From the letter below, this appears to be a
common problem.  I don't yet know the nature of the problem myself,
but I was wondering if anyone has encountered the trouble and
found a solution.
