Version 1.3 of the Unidata units package, udunits(3), is now available
for anonymous FTP:

This package provides a stand-alone, data abstraction library for the
manipulation of units of measurement by application programs. In
particular, the udunits(3) library is a de facto standard for the handling
of `units' attributes in netCDF datasets. As previously intimated in the
netCDF mailing-list, the library has been enhanced to support formatted,
temporal unit specifications of the form
milliseconds since 1992-10-7 15:42:10.75 -600
This should allow netCDF-using application programs to treat `units'
attributes in a generic manner.
The installation procedure has been streamlined through the use of the
GNU autoconf(1) utility and now works with the native make(1) of the host
platform. The package has been built and tested on the following systems:
