A conversion facility between the common portions of CDF 
and NetCDF would be especially valuable to the users of
the GEDEX files and NetCDF.

If the conversion is relatively easy, as Lloyd Treinish
suggests, why don't *both* Unidata and Goddard/GEDEX/NSSDC
make translators?
