Re: [ldm-users] GOES-12 satellite down; GOES-10 now sending degraded imagery to NOAAport

There's a lot more GOES 10 was doing for South America. They had to also consider that they no longer have N-S stationkeeping for GOES 10 because of fuel constraints...

Beats me. Likely still in preacceptance testing.

At least it's AFTER hurricane season...
I wonder why they didn't just activate GOES-13? It's there. It doesn't
wobble. Imagery resolution is better. I'm confoozed.
Actually, through other sourtces, I learned that it would take 2-3 weeks
to bring it online. If G-12 wil be down only through today, then a G-10
temporary revival is fine for me.

If I'm reading the schedule correctly here:

  http://www.ssd.noaa.gov/PS/SATS/GOES/TEN/

it looks like GOES 10 was already doing imaging over South America (the
GEOSS in the Americas program). Changing its schedule to cover for GOES
12 probably wasn't much of a reach (compared to turning on GOES 13).
