Hi Greg - a I am remote from my terminal, but within gdplot3 (at the command line prompt) do a "ph txtloc" or "ph ANOTLN" or "ph ANOTYP" - you can annotate on top of the image (prior to invoking a gpend). There is probably some examples on UNIDATAs web site.
Another option is to use the $GEMEXE/gptext program.
