Re: [GSN] GSN and GALEON AGU ESSI Focus Group Topics

Hi all,

Hi Nadine et al.

Rudy Husar, Stefano Nativi, and Linda Miller have proposed a session:
IN08 "Standards-based Interoperability Among Tools and Data Services
in the Earth and Space Sciences"

You can see the draft description at:

http://submissions4.agu.org/specialsession/sessiondefinition.asp?sessionid=309&sectionid=26&tm=edit

I believe there is still time to make modifications if you feel this
would not attract papers along the lines of what some of you had in
mind.

Ben and others,

We would also be interested in supporting such a session at the next AGU
meeting. Since we're discussing this, I would propose to slightly change the
title and focus of the session to discuss not only the role of standards in
GEOSS but also how these standards can support the societal benefit areas. I
think that what made the Bejing workshop so successful is that it wasn't
purely a technology demonstration, but was rather focused on solving a
specific problem that rings true to practitioners in the wind energy field.
It would be great to build on that in organizing an AGU session that
combines the technological and societal interests and brings together these
communities to showcase the benefits of (and the need for) interoperability
in the GEOSS context. I think this would help make our interoperability
efforts much more valued and even more relevant to GEOSS…

Anyway, I hope this helps. Let me know how we can support you in this
effort,

Nadine
