Thanks for your replies
I'm running EDEX/CAVE system on a system running Centos 5.9 32bit as
recommended. The video card is an older ATI Radeon HD4350. I've installed
ATI linux driver 10.10.  ATI catalist 13.1 is the latest driver but I
wasn't sure if it would be compatible with the older version of Linux. I
have tried deleting the caveData folder with no change.

I figure the problem may be with missing and/or incompatible lib files or
video drivers.
Since I had to add symlinks for libGL.so.1 and libXp.so.6 What openGL
packages do you have installed.

As a side note: Ever since I installed the server/cave software gnome
programs like gedit and firefox no longer open and my background changed to
black. the gnome system admin tools also seemed to stop, i.e screensave
utility, users/groups ...
