Strategic Focus Areas

The CADIS group's work supports the following Unidata funding proposal focus areas:

  • 1-Broadening participation and expanding community services
  • 2-Advancing data services
  • 3-Developing and deploying useful tools
  • 5-Providing leadership in cyberinfrastructure
  • 6-Promoting diversity by expanding opportunities

Activities Since the Last Status Report

ASCII -> netCDF

Unidata is transforming the "top 14" (formerly 10) CADIS datasets into netCDF-CF, where possible. The top fourteen were gained from use metrics, and it is our hope to provide these data in a format that provides inter-operabilty and adheres to standards.The list of the top fourteen are:

  1. Network of Permafrost Observatories in North America and Russia - done
  2. Switchyard LDEO CTD data - done
  3. O-Buoy1 Deployment - needs work
  4. North Pole Environmental Observatory Bottle Chemistry - needs work
  5. Switchyard UW CTD data - nearly complete
  6. Barrow Atqasuk ITEX Climate - needs work
  7. Barrow Atqasuk ITEX Community Metadata - done
  8. WHOI Ice Tethered Profiler #5 - needs work
  9. Barrow Atqasuk ITEX Detailed Microclimate - needs work
  10. NCAR PAM-III Atlanta Ice Camp Site - done
  11. Network of Permafrost Observatories in North America and Russia deep boreholes - done
  12. Arctic Great Rivers Observatory - needs work
  13. North Pole Environmental Observatory NPEO Oceanographic Mooring Data - needs work
  14. Supporting_Data_Sets/Ancillary_Data_Sets/UpperAirObs_subsets.A.2006 - needs work

Ongoing Activities

We plan to continue the following activies:

  • ASCII -> netCDF transformations
  • IDV visualizations

IADS update

Unidata will focus on the format conversion to netCDF in the upcoming IADS follow up proposal to CADIS. Unidata will be less involved in visualization and data delivery. Funding for IADS is very optimistic, but we have not recieved the funding as of this report.
