Registration for the 2018 Unidata Users Workshop is now open.
The Unidata Users Committee invites you to join Unidata staff, community members, and distinguished speakers this June in Boulder, Colorado. The goal of this year's workshop is to raise awareness of the current trends in the academic geoscience community with an emphasis on Data Proximate Analysis, Machine Learning and Data Analytics, Using GOES-16 Data, and Working with Ensemble NWP Output. Scientists and educators from the academic geoscience community will present ideas and techniques for making effective use of geoscience data and share activities, course materials, and ideas for improving education and research. There will be hands-on workshops, a poster session, and time for informal discussions with presenters and Unidata developers.
The workshop, titled Reducing Time to Science: Evolving Workflows for Geoscience Research and Education, is scheduled for June 25-28, 2018.

This will be the Unidata community's sixth triennial workshop. The Unidata Users Committee is currently planning the 2018 event, but we encourage community members to save the date. Updates will be provided via e-mail, posts on the News@Unidata blog, and on the 2018 Unidata Users Workshop web page as planning progresses.
The University of Wisconsin, Madison will be hosting a three-day Unidata Regional Software Training Workshop June 5-7, 2017, with an optional hackathon following on June 8. Unidata software developers will be leading the Python-focused workshop, which will cover the use of the MetPy and Siphon packages in the context of atmospheric science and introduce the National Weather Service's Common AWIPS Visualization Environment (CAVE) along with Python tools for working with AWIPS data services. A basic familiarity with Python is assumed — check out the Unidata Online Python Training for a refresher.
Unidata holds regional workshops in part to facilitate easy access to software training for those who may not be able to travel to training workshops held at the Unidata Program Center in Boulder, Colorado. Attendance is explicitly not limited to University of Wisconsin students and staff; we encourage those within easy travel distance to consider attending.

With funding from the National Science Foundation, the Unidata program is collaborating with researchers at the National Center for Atmospheric Research and the university community to organize a workshop on “Modeling Research in the Cloud.” The workshop will include speakers and participants from academia, government, and the private sector (including commercial Cloud vendors), and will be held 31 May - 2 June 2017 at the UCAR campus in Boulder, Colorado. Funding is available to sponsor attendance at the workshop by five graduate students.

StormCenter Communications, Inc., in association with UCAR's COMET program, is holding a GOES-R Workshop for Broadcast Meteorologists on Friday 18 November, 2016 from 1pm to 8pm EST.
The workshop will provide an opportunity for broadcast meteorologists from around the nation to engage with professionals from NOAA and NASA on the launch of the next generation GOES-R weather satellite. GOES-R will carry a high spatial and temporal resolution sensor called the Advanced Baseline Imager (ABI).
Unidata's annual Software Training Workshops at the Unidata Program Center in Boulder, Colorado provide training and guidance on the use of Unidata software packages. While the workshops are designed primarily to benefit the academic community, representatives from government agencies and commercial entities are also invited to participate. This year's workshop ran from October 17-28, and saw strong attendance from all three groups.
In recent years we have heard from community members that it is more and more difficult to attend training workshops held at the Program Center in Boulder. As a result, we are asking for your input on the sorts of software training that would be most useful, in the hope of maximizing the benefits for our academic members while continuing to serve the larger community. The workshop will be held October 17 – November 1, 2016. Individual courses last from one to three days.
Unidata's training workshops are developed and presented by the software developers and support staff for each package, so you can be sure to get your questions answered.

The workshop features an exploration of Python in the context of Unidata technologies, courses on Unidata's display and analysis packages IDV and AWIPS-II (with GEMPAK), as well as courses on data access and management tools including the Local Data Manager (LDM) and the THREDDS Data Server (TDS).
The workshop will be held October 17 – November 1, 2016. Individual courses last from one to three days. Registration is open until September 19, 2016.
