Unidata's 2018 Software Training Workshop will be held at the Unidata Program Center in Boulder, CO from October 15-26. Spots are still available for courses covering AWIPS, MetPy, netCDF, LDM, and TDS. Individual courses last from one to three days.

San Jose State University in San Jose, California will be hosting a Unidata Regional Software Training Workshop October 4-5, 2018. Unidata software developers will be leading the Python-focused workshop, which will cover the use of the MetPy and Siphon packages in the context of atmospheric science. A basic familiarity with Python is assumed — check out the Unidata Online Python Training site for a refresher.
Unidata holds regional workshops in part to facilitate easy access to software training for those who may not be able to travel to training workshops held at the Unidata Program Center in Boulder, Colorado. Attendance is explicitly not limited to San Jose State students and staff; we encourage those within easy travel distance to consider attending.

The 2018 Unidata Users Workshop took place June 25-28 at UCAR's Center Green facility in Boulder, Colorado. The workshop's theme — Reducing Time to Science: Evolving Workflows for Geoscience Research and Education — drew participants from across the atmospheric and other geosciences communities. Attendees took part in a series of presentations and hands-on exercises that explored approaches to data-proximate computing, uses of machine learning techniques in the geosciences, and interaction with data from new satellites and output from ensemble modeling systems.
Space is still available to attend the 2018 Unidata Users Workshop, and registration is being extended through May 24, 2018.

The goal of this year's workshop is to raise awareness of the current trends in the academic geoscience community with an emphasis on Data Proximate Analysis, Machine Learning and Data Analytics, Using GOES-16 Data, and Working with Ensemble NWP Output. Scientists and educators from the academic geoscience community will present ideas and techniques for making effective use of geoscience data and share activities, course materials, and ideas for improving education and research. There will be hands-on workshops, a poster session, and time for informal discussions with presenters and Unidata developers.
