The Unidata Program Center has spiffy new lodgings. Again!
After nearly a year of renovation and refurbishment, UCAR's Foothills Laboratory 4 is ready for occupancy. The Unidata Program Center is moving back to its (newly remodelled) space in the FL-4 building July 5-6, 2012. As a result, we may be slow to respond to phone calls and e-mail support questions during the transition. If all goes according to plan, we'll be in the new space beginning on Monday, July 9th. (Note, however, that most UPC staff will be attending the 2012 Unidata Users Workshop at NCAR's Mesa Lab the week of July 9th.)
This afternoon the Unidata Program Center received a message from Dr. Perry Samson of the University of Michigan. Dr. Samson is a co-founder of The Weather Underground, and he wrote to inform the Unidata community about the sale of the Weather Underground to The Weather Channel.
The Weather Network is looking for a scientific programmer to design data processing methodologies which enable the integration of satellite, radar and other observational datasets with meteorological forecast datasets to create value-added "Nowcast" products, among other duties. The position is in Oakville, Ontario, Canada.

New Mexico State University's community data portal uses Unidata's Thematic Real-time Environmental Distributed Data Services (THREDDS) Data Server and Repository for Archiving, Managing and Accessing Diverse Data (RAMADDA) server applications. The portal makes data sets that have been archived at NMSU's Center for Applied Remote Sensing in Agriculture, Meteorology and Environment (CARSAME) and New Mexico Climate Center available to the public.
Lansing Madry joined the Unidata Program Center software development staff on April 23rd, 2012. Oddly enough, his previous office was across the street from Unidata's current quarters in the Anthes building of UCAR's Foothills Lab. There, Lansing consumed Unidata products while working for Precision Wind, a company that provides precise, high quality wind forecasts to wind farms.

Jack comes to Unidata from Vmware Inc., were he worked as Systems Administrator for the Engineering group. He holds a bachelor's degree in Agricultural Education from Colorado State University, and a master's degree in Computer Information Systems from Regis University.
The Unidata Program Center has secured additional funding to encourage student participation in this summer's Users Workshop, "Navigating Earth System Science Data," being held 9-13 July 2012 in Boulder, Colorado.
During late March and early April 2012 the Unidata Program Center conducted a survey of Cooperative Opportunity for NCEP Data Using IDD Technology (CONDUIT) users to determine which of the model output currently included in the feed are in use, which are candidates for removal from the feed, and which new model runs (if any) should be added to the feed.
