The United States of America will experience its second total solar eclipse of the 21st century on April 8th, 2024. Millions of Americans reside in the path of totality, and thousands of others will travel to experience the surreal midday darkening. Many of those who experienced the 2017 total solar eclipse claim the event was indescribable, breathtaking, and even humbling. For others, it was a nightmare.
This year's annual American Meteorological Society meeting was held 27 January - 1 February 2024 in Baltimore, MD. Several NSF Unidata staff members were able to travel to Baltimore to lead workshops, visit with students, present papers and posters, and otherwise take part in the conference. As always, staff members spent some time meeting with community members at UCAR's exhibit hall booth. The following are some of the conference highlights from the perspective of NSF Unidata staff.

The Unidata Users Committee invites you to submit nominations for the Russell L. DeSouza Award for Outstanding Community Service. This Community Service Award honors individuals whose energy, expertise, and active involvement enable the Unidata Program to better serve the geosciences. Honorees personify Unidata's ideal of a community that shares ideas, data, and software through computing and networking technologies.
Members of the NSF Unidata Program Center staff will be attending the 104th annual American Meteorology Society meeting, to be held 28 January - 1 February 2024 in Baltimore, MD. Staff members will be presenting sessions and posters, and will also be spending time in the UCAR booth (#323) in the main Exhibit hall.

NSF Unidata offers JupyterHub resources tailored to the instructional requirements of university atmospheric science classes through the Science Gateway project. For the Spring 2024 term, NSF Unidata is once again offering universities (or individual instructors) access to cloud-based JupyterHub servers tailored to their requirements.

The NSF Unidata Summer Internship offers undergraduate and graduate students an opportunity to work with NSF Unidata Program Center staff on projects drawn from a wide variety of areas in the atmospheric and computational sciences. NSF Unidata's mission is to support the Earth System Science research and education community with data and tools for data access, analysis, and visualization. As a NSF Unidata intern, you'll pursue the goal of adding innovative enhancements to data access, analysis, and visualization tools developed within NSF Unidata.
