Version 4.4.6 of the netCDF Operators (NCO) has been released. NCO is an Open Source package that consists of a dozen standalone, command-line programs that take netCDF files as input, then operate (e.g., derive new data, average, print, hyperslab, manipulate metadata) and output the results to screen or files in text, binary, or netCDF formats.
The NCO project is coordinated by Professor Charlie Zender of the Department of Earth System Science, University of California, Irvine. More information about the project, along with binary and source downloads, are available on the SourceForge project page.
The Balearic Islands Coastal Ocean Observing and Forecasting System (SOCIB), is a multi-platform Marine Research Infrastructure located in the Mediterranean Sea. A joint initiative between the Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation (Ministerio de Ciencia e Innovación) and the Balearic Islands Government (Govern de les Illes Balears), SOCIB provides free, open and quality-controlled data from nearshore to the open sea.
News of this innovative use of THREDDS and other Unidata technologies in the Balearic Islands Coastal Ocean Observing and Forecasting System (SOCIB) came to us as a result of UPC staff participation at the Ocean Data Interoperability Platform (ODIP) conference earlier this year.
The registration deadline has been extended to October 10, 2014.
Remember that registration for Unidata's upcoming 2014 Software Training Workshop is open until October 10, 2014. The workshop features Unidata's display and analysis packages GEMPAK (with an introduction to AWIPS-II) and the IDV, as well as data access and management tools including the Local Data Manager (LDM) and the THREDDS Data Server (TDS). This year's workshop will also include a session on using the Python programming language with Unidata technologies.
The workshop will be held October 21 – November 6, 2014 in Boulder, Colorado. Individual courses last from one to four days.
The NetCDF-Java/Common Data Model (CDM) library and THREDDS Data Server (TDS) version 4.5.3 were released on September 12, 2014. The development team recommends this upgrade for anyone using the CDM or TDS.
