The netCDF-Java ucar.nc2.util.DiskCache2 class method for generating unique file names is capable of producing identical names if called in quick succession. While the circumstances under which the problem occurs are very specific (and rare), because the possibility of data corruption exists the development team strongly recommends that anyone using netCDF-Java/CDM or TDS upgrade immediately.

Version 4.9.3 of the netCDF Operators (NCO) has been released. NCO is an Open Source package that consists of a dozen standalone, command-line programs that take netCDF files as input, then operate (e.g., derive new data, average, print, hyperslab, manipulate metadata) and output the results to screen or files in text, binary, or netCDF formats.

Tiffany Meyer joined the Unidata Program Center software development team on May 18th, 2020. Before joining Unidata, Tiffany had been at the Cooperative Institute for Mesoscale Meteorological Studies (CIMMS) — a collaborative research facility sponsored by the University of Oklahoma — for the past 8 years. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Meteorology from the University of Oklahoma, and a Master of Science degree in Atmospheric Science with a focus on lightning from Colorado State University.
