Version 4.4.0 of the NetCDF-C library is now available.
Highlights of this release include:
Added CDM-5 support.
Added support for opening in-memory file content.
Modified CMakeLists.txt to work with the re-organized cmake configuration used by the latest HDF5, 1.8.16, on Windows. Before this fix, netCDF would fail to locate hdf5 1.8.16 when using cmake on Windows.
Modified ncgen to properly handle the L and UL suffixes for integer constants to keep backward compatibility.
Version 4.5.4 of the netCDF Operators (NCO) has been released. NCO is an Open Source package that consists of a dozen standalone, command-line programs that take netCDF files as input, then operate (e.g., derive new data, average, print, hyperslab, manipulate metadata) and output the results to screen or files in text, binary, or netCDF formats.
The Atmospheric Science Group in the Department of Geosciences at Texas Tech University seeks applications for a full time, non-tenure-track Research Assistant Professor. Evaluation of candidates will begin January 18, 2015 and continue until the position is filled. A start date as soon as January 2016 is possible. A Ph.D. is required at the time of appointment.
The Atmospheric Science Group in the Department of Geosciences at Texas Tech University seeks applications for a full time, non-tenure-track Research Assistant Professor within the Mesoscale Modeling research group. The successful applicant will broadly work in the areas of probabilistic numerical weather prediction and ensemble data assimilation, with a focus on transitioning state-of-the-art forecasting products into the operational Texas Tech Ensemble Prediction System (TTEPS). Evaluation of candidates will begin February 1, 2016 and will continue until the position is filled. A start date as soon as February 2016 is possible. A Ph.D. is required at the time of appointment.
The NOAA National Ocean Service (NOS) Center for Operational Oceanographic Products and Services (CO-OPS) is looking to hire a coastal ocean modeler to join its Modeling Team. This team is responsible for the operation and maintenance of the NOS Operational Forecast Systems (OFS) comprising the National Operational Coastal Modeling Program (NOCMP) as well as the implementation of new or upgraded OFS into operations within NWS/NCEP's supercomputing environment.
As a community-governed program, Unidata depends on guidance and feedback from educators, researchers, and students in the atmospheric and related sciences. The Unidata Community Survey seeks your feedback both on existing Unidata services and possible future directions for the program. Your ideas will help inform Unidata's path forward; your participation is much appreciated.
The Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) membership has approved the OGC CF-netCDF 3.0 encoding using GML Coverage Application Schema, an extension to the OGC CF-netCDF 3.0 encoding standard.
The OGC CF-netCDF 3.0 encoding standard has emerged as a widely used and well supported data model and encoding for domains such as atmospheric science, oceanography, climatology, meteorology, and hydrology. It supports multi-dimensional data representing space and time-varying phenomena.
Members of the Unidata Program Center staff will be attending the 96th annual American Meteorology Society meeting, January 10-14 2014, in New Orleans, Louisiana. Unidata will be in Booth 224 in the exhibit hall; feel free to stop by to talk with us. The booth will feature live, hands-on demonstrations of Unidata software and services, including a look at the current state of the AWIPS II environment. Come and talk with the developers about what's coming up and what you'd like to see.
Read on for a schedule of selected sessions at which Unidata staff and community members will be presenting or attending.
Unidata offers equipment grants to support a variety of projects
The Unidata Program Center is pleased to announce the opening of the 2016 Unidata Community Equipment Awards solicitation. Created under the sponsorship of the National Science Foundation, Unidata equipment awards are intended to encourage new members from diverse disciplinary backgrounds in the geosciences to join the Unidata community, and to encourage existing members to continue their active participation, enhancing the community process. For 2016, a total of $100,000 is available for awards; proposals for amounts up to $20,000 will be considered.
