Version 4.4.1.1 of the NetCDF-C library is now available. This is a maintenance release containing several important bug fixes. The Unidata netCDF team recommend migrating to netCDF 4.4.1.1 as soon as is possible to avoid a potential — albeit extremely rare — data loss issue in ncgen specific to 64-bit environments when using netCDF4 compound data types. Please read the full release announcement for details.
Version 4.6.2 of the netCDF Operators (NCO) has been released. NCO is an Open Source package that consists of a dozen standalone, command-line programs that take netCDF files as input, then operate (e.g., derive new data, average, print, hyperslab, manipulate metadata) and output the results to screen or files in text, binary, or netCDF formats.

Unidata's annual Software Training Workshops at the Unidata Program Center in Boulder, Colorado provide training and guidance on the use of Unidata software packages. While the workshops are designed primarily to benefit the academic community, representatives from government agencies and commercial entities are also invited to participate. This year's workshop ran from October 17-28, and saw strong attendance from all three groups.
In recent years we have heard from community members that it is more and more difficult to attend training workshops held at the Program Center in Boulder. As a result, we are asking for your input on the sorts of software training that would be most useful, in the hope of maximizing the benefits for our academic members while continuing to serve the larger community. As part of an ongoing effort at the Unidata Program Center to bring Python-based workflows to the atmospheric science community, UPC developers have created the Unidata Jupyter Notebook Gallery to showcase tools and techniques that may be of interest to community members. The gallery is a collection of Jupyter notebooks that demonstrate ways to work with atmospheric science data using Python. The notebooks use a variety of tools available in the Python ecosystem, including several developed by Unidata.
