Unidata Program Center Welcomes Inken Purvis

Inken Purvis
Inken Purvis

The Unidata Program Center is pleased to welcome Inken Purvis to our staff. Inken joined us as an Administrative Assistant on March 2, 2015; she'll be the Program Center's new Travel Coordinator, among other administrative duties.

Prior to coming to the UPC, Inken has worked in a variety of marketing and administrative roles in the financial services, publishing, and (most recently) pharmaceutical sectors. Her experience doing meeting support, event planning, and travel arrangement fills an obvious need here at the Program Center, but that's just a beginning.

NCL

NCAR's Computational & Information Systems Laboratory released version 6.3.0 of the NCAR Command Language (NCL) on March 18, 2015.

NCL is a free interpreted language designed specifically for scientific data processing and visualization. It is a self-contained, array-based scripting language developed in close collaboration with scientists at NCAR and an active international user community that is specialized for analyzing and visualizing geoscientific data. It provides robust file input and output for a variety of commonly used scientific formats, including various flavors of NetCDF, HDF, GRIB, and shapefiles. NCL also contains hundreds of analysis functions and enables the creation of high quality custom-tailored 2D visualizations.

LDM 6.12.7 Released

Version 6.12.7 of the LDM package has been released. Improvements include:

  • Additions to the GEMPAK GRIB2 tables for ingesting the NOAAPORT satellite broadcast. This should greatly reduce the number of "GB" error-messages in the LDM log file.
  • Support for running rsyslogd(8) on a Solaris system with configuration-file /etc/opt/csw/rsyslog.conf and PID-file /var/run/rsyslogd.pid.
  • Refactored and generally improved code in pqact(1), hopefully stopping it from receiving a SIGSEGV when executing regexec(3). This has only occurred on one host and it's not clear if it's due to the code or the host.

The complete set of changes can be found here.

This new package can be downloaded here.
