Hi Paula,

I have a test release for you to test:

https://artifacts.unidata.ucar.edu/repository/downloads-idv/6.0u2/idv_6_0u2_windows64_installer.exe

This is not a perfect solution but should be able to handle most of the
situations. The problem you were seeing was
some bugs and also the incomplete library function. When saving the data
variables of GFS, the NC library can handle
continuous variables very well and that covers about 95% of the variables.
Those mixed-intervals variables have
a very complicated time dimension and saving function can not handle them
effectively.

Here is the suggestion I have: don't save a ZIDV with both continuous variables
and mixed-intervals together. You
can save a ZIDV of continuous variables as you did previously. When saving a
ZIDV of mixed-intervals variables, you
need to subset the time range three times larger. For example, if you only want
to save the total precipitation for
the first three-time steps, you actually need to save nine-time steps. The
logic behind is very difficult to explain. Hope
the above test release can solve your problem.
