Based on a successful test, this temporary schedule will be in effect
from: 2145Z on Jan 03, 2001 through 2145Z on March 31, 2001.
For further information, see the message below from NOAA/NESDIS.
***********************************************************
All Users of GOES-West Data:
Per request of the research community and coordination with NWS and
NESDIS,
there will a temporary change to the GOES-10 Routine Imager Scanning
schedule. Rapid Scan and Super Rapid Scan schedules are not
affected by
this change.
The research request is in support of the Pacific Landfalling Jet
Experiment (PACJET). In PACJET, high density winds will be
produced
experimentally using more frequent satellite imagery, to see if
there are
positive impacts in Numerical Weather Prediction. See
http://cimss.ssec.wisc.edu/goes/g10_report/ (section 4.6)
for more
information.
**A test period will take place from:**
**2145Z on Dec 10, 2000 through 2145Z on Dec 15, 2000.**
**Based on a successful test, this temporary schedule will be in
effect
from:**
**2145Z on Jan 03, 2001 through 2145Z on March 31, 2001.**
**The effected schedule and images are as follows:**
The current Southern Hemisphere Image that is scanned hourly at
xx:52 will
be replaced with a Pacific US (PACUS) sector. This will result
in having
only one Southern Hemisphere image an hour during routine scanning
mode at
xx:22, and will increase the typical coverage over the Western United
States to 5 times per hour at xx:00, xx:15, xx:30, xx:45, and xx:52.
Note
that due to housekeeping on GOES-10, there will not be an additional
PACUS
image at 03:52Z, 15:52Z, or 21:52Z, similar to the current lack
of Southern
Hemisphere data at these times for the same reason.
See http://www.ssd.noaa.gov/SSD/GOES/WEST/sched.html
for full details on
the current scanning strategy and scanning schedule.
In the event of operational considerations (for example, a tropical
cyclone
approaching the American Samoa) the current GOES-West scanning schedule
can
and will be reinstated for the duration of operational needs.
The PACJET
schedule will be reinstated once conditions warrant
If there are any other concerns to this temporary schedule change,
