Deadlines to be aware of:
- Applications for 2017 Community Equipment Awards will be accepted until 31 March 2017.
- Sign up to attend the Regional Software Training Workshop at Millersville University before 31 March 2017.
- Nominations for the DeSouza Award will be accepted until 1 April 2017.
- Nominations for the post of Unidata Users Committee Graduate Student representative will be accepted until 31 May 2017.
EarthCube is offering grants to defray travel costs for early-career scientists who want to attend this year's All Hands Meeting. The deadline to apply for these grants is March 15, 2017.
Proposals for grants supporting two types of EarthCube activities are due by March 14, 2017.
Version 4.6.4 of the netCDF Operators (NCO) has been released. NCO is an Open Source package that consists of a dozen standalone, command-line programs that take netCDF files as input, then operate (e.g., derive new data, average, print, hyperslab, manipulate metadata) and output the results to screen or files in text, binary, or netCDF formats.
The Unidata Users Committee invites you to submit nominations for the Russell L. DeSouza Award for Outstanding Community Service. This Community Service Award honors individuals whose energy, expertise, and active involvement enable the Unidata Program to better serve the geosciences.
The Unidata Users Committee is seeking nominations for a Graduate Student representative to join the group of nine university faculty members currently serving on this committee. Nominees should be Graduate Students who use Unidata software, hold a strong interest in the Unidata program, and have an interest in learning how a community-based program like Unidata is governed.

John Leeman joined the Unidata Program Center software development team on January 30th, 2017.
The EarthCube Science Support Office (ESSO) is searching for a Technical Officer to develop and manage a high-level cyberinfrastructure strategy aligned with EarthCube goals, vision, and user needs.
Millersville University in Pennsylvania will be hosting a Unidata Regional Software Training Workshop April 6-8, 2017. Unidata software developers will be leading the Python-focused workshop.

Unidata Program Center developers write regularly on technical topics on the Unidata Developer's Blog. Most recently, developer Michael James writes about rendering AWIPS data with Matplotlib, Cartopy, and MetPy, and developer describes unit testing in the netCDF-c library using cmake.
Governing Committee News
Unidata's Strategic Advisory Committee is meeting 6-7 October 2016 in Boulder, Colorado. The meeting summary is available here. The next meeting will be held 13-14 April 2017 at the University of Wisconsin, Madison.
