NetCDF-Java library and TDS version 4.6.1

The NetCDF-Java/Common Data Model (CDM) library and THREDDS Data Server (TDS) version 4.6.1 were released on May 15, 2015. The development team recommends this upgrade for anyone using the CDM or TDS. The latest update can be downloaded from:

To recap the somewhat confusing release situation:

  • Version 4.3.23 was the last stable release for TDS.
  • Versions 4.4.x never became stable releases.
  • Version 4.5.x of the TDS never became stable releases because of problems with handling FMRC collections. Version 4.5 uses an older version of GRIB handling, and will not be further developed.
  • Version 4.6.0 was not released due to instabilities in FMRC collections.
  • The 4.6.1 release is the stable release for both TDS and CDM. Its main feature is a rewrite of GRIB handling.

All users are strongly encouraged to move to 4.6.

For more information about the 4.6 release and how to upgrade, please see Upgrading to TDS 4.6.

For a list of changes since version 4.3.23, see Unidata's JIRA site.

Real-world use of new features by the user community is integral to the process of creating and refining these libraries. Please send any potential issues to the development team via Unidata's support system (support-netcdf-java@unidata.ucar.edu or support-thredds@unidata.ucar.edu) or the user community mailing lists (netcdf-java@unidata.ucar.edu or thredds@unidata.ucar.edu).
